Do you ever have those mornings where you have every intention in the world of waking up early and getting ready and then wake up 10 minutes before it’s time to leave and you’re running late? I know I do. While it doesn’t happen often, there are those days where I definitely should have woken up earlier and have to rush to get ready.
Things You Shouldn’t Skip
There are some things you shouldn’t skip no matter how much of a rush you’re in. The two things I always do are brush my teeth and wash my face. When I see I’m running late, the first thing I do is hop out of bed and brush my teeth. That way, no matter what I end up not having time to do, my breath will smell great. Cleaning your face is also important when you’re running late because you will immediately feel ten times better and look more awake.
I also try to always put on lipstick. I don’t know what it is about having something on your lips, but it still seems to pull your look together (even if you’re rocking the “didn’t have time to get ready” look).
Hair and Makeup Tips
The best thing to do with your hair when you’re running late is to throw some dry shampoo in it and work with it. I typically like to wear my hair down and when I’m running late is no exception. I will take it down, spray my roots with dry shampoo with my head upside down and then parted, and go.
If the hair down look isn’t working for you, try either a braid or a bun with hair framing the face. We all know a braid can be super easy to do and instantly make you look like you spent time on your hair. As far as the bun goes, twist your hair into a simple messy bun and pull small pieces of hair in the front down to frame your face and give you more of a feminine appearance. That way, people will never know you spent all of three minutes doing your hair.
For makeup, stick to the basics. I tend to only use SPF, concealer, powder, blush and mascara on days when I am running late. Depending on the time of the year (how often I’m waking up late) I sometimes like to keep a go bag with these things in them. As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve been known to get to work and quickly put on makeup before I head in. That way at least I know I’m there on time and how much time I have left.
