It’s so hard to believe we’re only a week away from the end of my Disney College Program! This week I celebrated Christmas and worked overnight for the first time ever.
Besides the fact my voice was still gone, Friday I was mostly feeling better. I was scheduled to work at 5:45, and in I went. I was exhausted my whole shift, but it went by quickly and in the end I was glad I was able to work an early shift and get out so early.
That afternoon I relaxed and spent some time getting ready for Christmas. I didn’t want to push myself and risk getting sick again, so I made sure to go to bed early and not exert too much energy.
On Saturday I worked at 5:45 in the morning again. My voice wasn’t any better, but thankfully I was still able to push through the shift and it went by quickly. I had originally planned to go home and take a nap after work, but I decided to jump straight into present wrapping instead. This turned out to not be the best idea though because I was so tired it took me way longer than it should have to wrap the gifts.
In the evening I went to Magic Kingdom to meet up with one of my friends and do some last minute shopping. We went to Pacos Bills for dinner and I had the nachos. We spent some time walking around the park, went on a ride and then it was time to go home.
Sunday was Christmas Eve. I had the day off so I was able to drive home and spend it with my family. In the morning I hung out with Shelby and Emily and baked chocolate chip muffins. Both of them had to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so I wanted to at least spend some time with them. It’s difficult working in a place where you have so little control over your schedule, especially around the holidays.
That afternoon I went to my Grandma’s house for Christmas Eve. We always go to her house the night before Christmas, exchange presents, and have dinner. When we got there the first thing on the agenda was dinner. This year we mixed things up and had spaghetti (my favorite!). After dinner it was time to open presents. My Grandma was so generous with everything she got us and I am so appreciative.
After dinner I went home and finished wrapping a couple of last minute gifts. When I was done wrapping I went to church with my Mom, stuffed out stockings, and headed off to bed.
Christmas morning we woke up early and opened our stocking presents. We all curled up in bed and went around and unwrapped presents. After opening stockings we moved downstairs to open the presents under the tree. I had so much fun sitting around with my family, talking and opening presents.
From there, we spent time watching The Santa Claus and cooking. Our meal for the day was ribs, pulled chicken and sides. Our family friends, the Meadows, came over and ate lunch with us. We had a lot of fun catching up with them.
After lunch I had to go back up to Orlando. I was scheduled to work the graveyard shift all week (10:00pm-8:30am) and I needed to take a nap. I had been dreading my week on third shift since I found out about it but I tried my hardest not to let it put a damper in my day.
After having been up all night, I got home and was exhausted. I immediately got into bed and slept from 8:50am until 2:00pm. I couldn’t sleep any longer because I was going to EPCOT with friends in the afternoon. When it was time to wake up I got up, got ready, and was out the door within the hour.
I met up with my parents and the Meadows and we spent the afternoon in EPCOT. We walked around the countries and hung out. We had dinner in Germany and it was delicious. While it was a lot of fun, I was also exhausted. It took three cups of coffee to get me through the day.
I left dinner early and headed to to work around 9:20pm for another long night of work.
Wednesday & Thursday
Since I was on third shift, I spent the next two days mostly sleeping. Each night I worked it got worse and worse and I was more tired than the day before. By the end of the week, I was falling asleep at the desk. While this will be a story to tell my kids in the future, I hope to never work another night shift again.
It’s hard to believe my last week of the program is about to happen. Be sure to catch up on all of my previous weeks here.
