Once again I’m working hard to get you all caught up on writing about my time doing the Disney College Program. I’ve gotten into the habit of hanging out at home on work days and doing something fun on days off. I guess that’s what “normal” people with jobs do, but it feels so weird living so close to Disney World and not going all of the time!
Emily and I had the day off on Friday so we headed over to Magic Kingdom. It’s officially Christmas there and while it’s still a little early for me, I couldn’t help but get in the spirit. We wanted to make it early enough to see the Christmas trolley show, and it was so cute and festive! We also went on the Jingle Cruise (the holiday version of the Jungle Cruise), watched the Festival of Fantasy and met Rapunzel and Tiana.
After our time at Magic Kingdom we headed home to watch movies. I watched The Princess and the Frog for the first time and had just started watching the original Beauty and the Beast when Shelby asked if we wanted to go see the new Thor movie.
We quickly got ready and headed over to Disney Springs to make the movie in time and I must say friends you have to see it!
Saturday I had another day off. I spent the morning hanging around at home, and in the afternoon I spent time with Shelby before she had to go to work.
We went to Dunkin’ Donuts for a while and tried to plan some stuff for our future. It was nice to get to hang out somewhere and figure out what we’re doing next.
After I dropped Shelby off at work I went home and Emily and I ordered pizza. We ate our pizza while watching the rest of the movies we had rented the other day.
Sunday was another catch up day. I’ve been making a real effort recently to spend time out and having fun, but sometimes it’s still important to have a day to get stuff done. I spent the morning getting everything organized and ready for the week ahead. A little before work, I also had a friend came over to say hi.
This week, I was deployed to Port Orleans Riverside. While it is considered our sister resort, it’s still a different resort, meaning new information for me to learn. I enjoy working at Riverside, but on this particular day I was feeling burnt out. I am missing spending time at home and having time to go out and try new things. It feels like I have been doing a lot of working recently and while I never mind working, I’m also ready for some more time off.
Bright and early Monday morning I woke up around 5:00am and went on a backstage tour of the Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios. We were able to walk into the fifth dimension room and the hotel lobby area around the queue. We then went on the ride with the lights on which was really neat to see.
After the tour I went home and hopped back in bed until it was time to go to work. I ended up being extended by an hour (meaning they asked me to work an hour longer) and by the time I got home I was EXHAUSTED!
Tuesday I went home for the day because it was Jerick’s election day! For the past eight months he had been working hard running for District 4 City Council. We spent the morning making phone calls to people in the district who hadn’t voted yet encouraging them to vote. I then spent time with my dad. The plan originally was to watch a show with him, but I ended up sleeping instead.
That night I went to Jerick’s election party at a BBQ place. He was able to get 25 percent of the votes and I am so proud of all of the hard work he did! Running for city council at the age of 21 is an amazing feat and I’m so happy he was able to make it happen. Afterwards I went home and spent time with my parents until it was time for bed.
I headed back up to Orlando on Wednesday for another day off. I spent the morning in St. Pete with my dad and left around 11:00.
Shelby was headed home to Tennessee for the weekend that afternoon and I took her to the airport. On the way there we stopped at Panera Bread to grab lunch because I was in desperate need of some grocery shopping and didn’t have any lunch food.
After dropping Shelby off I went home and spent the evening hanging out with Katarina at her apartment.
Thursday I was back to work for a 6 day run. I found out I was deployed to Riverside again the next week. Since I had already been there for a week I didn’t mind staying longer. I did get scheduled for two shifts that don’t end until 1:30am though, so that should be fun 🙂
Be sure to take a look at what I’ve been up to so far during my college program!
